Drinking on a school night.. hmmm

June 2nd, 2004

Oh yeah… that tried and true method to make yourself feel like shit.. go drinking with work colleagues on a school night, get 5 hours sleep and realise that you’ve got a major deployment the next day.

At the time everything is going great. You’re having fun, kicking back, putting away beers. Then you move onto dinner, more wine, more food, more talk, more bullshit. Then you move back to the hotel room (‘I wonder why the restaurant is closing…?!?!’) and then more beer and more chatting…

Then you see it… the clock ticking into tomorrow….. and you’ve got a journey and then some to get home….. bleh…..

So today I am full of Nurofen and regret, though last night was fantastic and the company was generous enough to cover expenses.

I just wish my head would stop swimming so I can get back to work…

Haven’t seen the girl in a couple of days and honestly missing her. Due to last nights drinks I didn’t do the obligatory parental-visit, which although good to catch up with work colleagues, I admit I missed….. (yes, i’m deranged, I don’t mind my future-in-laws….)

However there will be so much happening today I think the results will remain the same as yesterday. Five seconds of chatting to 12 hours of working.

Of course, my new iMac arrives today, so that makes things a little easier :)

ADSL gone awry….

June 1st, 2004

Possibly the most boring topic in the universe, even for me.

I booked my ADSL to be hooked up last week in anticipation of my new iMac arriving (I just want to add to those who haven’t noticed that my iMac is now on order… squee!)….

ed: I can’t believe I actually said ‘squee’ in a post!

Now being the good sumaritan that I am, I didn’t complain when I suspected that he installation was late. (long story short, it’s not the companies fault, it’s their provider who they can’t change)…..
But it now appears that the service was, in fact, activated early, and me being nice means I could have hassled someone to service my ‘not-working’ ADSL days ago!

Damm being nice.. i’m kicking asses and taking names from here on out..

Stress levels are on the increase at work, they’re choking me up with work on jobs that are in motion but they expect to be working in five seconds flat.. gotta love upper management with their ‘problem-of-the-week’ syndrome.

So.. I’ll do what I always do… bark and yell and scream in the meeting until people realise that I *know* that x is a problem and I *know* that y is a problem, but until I finish ‘a’ through ‘w’ have been done, we can’t fix z, y or z without royally ‘f-ing’ it up and needing a re-work.

bleh…

On a good note the company paid for breakfast (in this company, ’tis the little things that count!), always in good spirit whilst my waistline continues to expand faster than the national (US) debt.

bah, gotta live life sometimes :)

Some people see happiness from a distance and reject it methodically. It’s always unusual to watch from the sidelines when you’re not the one sabotaging your life, and when you realise for the first time in your life, that only you can control what you do right and wrong.

Very interesting….. I just hope my kids don’t experience some of the pains i’ve dealt with…

Though in other ways I know they’ll have to…
