Post holiday… Day 1
It’s 7:20 on Monday morning post-holiday and I need to be at work in a couple of hours.
It’s going to be hard to get through today.
There will be strong business challenges this week which are going to make my life interesting (read: appalling) and I need to get back into the focus of delivering great products (well, services really) and remaining ‘on the ball’ so-to-speak so I can get everything moving in a forward direction.
I didn’t sleep well.

The deceit of new and comfortable clothes (and holidays) comes only as a shock at the time when you attempt to put your old non-holiday clothes back on and you realise that 10 days really is enough time for that stomach of yours to get slightly bigger!
…. I’m finding myself a pool today to attend casually through the week.
As part of this momentous occasion i’m going to keep a bridget jones’ diary type setup where I indicate on a daily/weekly basis how my progress is running (probably just weekly, don’t want to be too obsessed).
I’m thinking that Monday is a good a start day as any
p.s – I have never been a big follower of my own weight, i’m far more concerned on my ‘weight appearance’ as it would be so the only details you’ll get are relative in nature.
Swim Stats
Appearance: Saggy, getting towards looking overweight
Laps last week: 0
Estimate laps this week: 70
Distance: 1.75km’s
ed: Everybody knows what my challenge is right now and this blog was originally designed to be a personal reflection of my own challenges and successes (and those of my friends). Subsequently i’m not going to die for this, but I do intend on working on making a measured and marked improvement each week until my (permanent) return to Sydney. Wish me luck!

Things I like about Sydney:
- Public transport system (yes, a necessity and yes, I can only imagine what it’s like with the train strikes, but come to any other city in Australia and you’ll be thankful of your system)
- Peoples smell. [ed: allow me to explain] – In Sydney everybody seems to be wearing some kind of cologne/perfume/deodorant. The permanent smells of CK and YSL are still lodged in my brain.
- Accessibility. You want to go somewhere, chances are it’s a $15 cab ride or 15 minutes public transport away.
- People. They’re very work-focused and all, but within the pockets you can find huge networks of great people. I hadn’t expected that. (ed: no, I hadn’t expected that on such a large scale)
- It’s not expensive. I’m sure all the Sydney residents will start blasting me about cost-of-living etc, but in all honesty the only expensive part about house prices in Sydney is if you want to buy (and I don’t so I really don’t care about them!). When you think about Sydney you think everything will be expensive and that the wage market differences between our other major capitals is justified, but this simply isn’t true. If you’re renting you *will* have more disposable income than your fellow capital-city pundits (I know, i’ve lived in them).
Concurrent to this little fact is that in most cases things are cheaper due to the heightened level of healthy competition amongst competitors. You can certainly pay premiums and enjoy some overly-expensive indulgences but most Sydney people can do considerably more with their incomes as proportionately they’re higher than their sister states.

There’s a lot more i’d like to say right now but after this i’m starting to feel the drain and i’m not entirely motivated to committed it all to text. I will however return tonight for another session at the keyboard (i’m doubtful I will get to update through the day this week, too much on the plate) and try to recap on some of the highlights of my holiday.
Loving all your work
Adam
