How did the party end up being transferred to my house…(?)

December 30th, 2003

How is it that in an hour I receive successive phone calls to tell me that the party has been transferred to my house!?!?!

So folks, now i’m the host of the NYE party of my small-town friends (no offence to small towns and all, or my friends for that matter!). Problem is, it has to be good……
What I actually need is a BBQ…. and a bigger fridge… and a sense of hospitality… and bon bons…. (everyone loves bon bons)……

I’m hopeless at this stuff folks. I’m good at ‘going’ to parties. I’m good at making an appearance, being friendly and courteous as a recipient of (hopefully) free alcohol and food. I can mingle, I can interact, I can socialise.

I’m not a good host…… and I still can’t find a place to buy bon bons

Looking on the bright side I receive an e-mail from a very attractive girl asking to stay at my place for New Years. After informing her that she has to sleep with me (figuratively speaking), she agreed :)
(note: you all know me, she’s going to ‘sleep’ with me … not ‘sleeeep’ with me :P )

If only planning a party at my house was this easy….

One Tequila, Two Tequila, Three Tequila, Floor

December 29th, 2003

Dan, in his infinite wisdom, decides that a 1:30pm start time for our latest farciacal drinking session is appropriate due to the Christmas-break we’re all enjoying.

“It’s all about pacing yourself” he duly informs us…..

Problem with pacing yourself is that you find yourself ‘mellowing out’ after about 4.5 hours of drinking time. Insert one gorgeous 45kg woman announcing to the group ‘it’s time to start drinking tequila!’ ……. hmmmmmm

Several rounds later and the party has definitely hotted up, and we’re no longer in that mellow stage that we’ve all become accostmed to. Points of note when drinking tequila at a pub:

- Everyone moves out of your way.. particularly when it’s not 3am and you’re not staggering…. I think the disbelief lies in the fact that of our stupidity of drinking such a foul substance at some ridiculously early time in the day
- You’re officially smarter after a couple of Tequila’s, capable of offering advice on a menagerie of topics, if only you have the time to ask
- One should never been in ear-shot of ex’s when drinking Tequila, as this advice invariably starts to stretch on ‘why we broke up’
- The bar staff will remember you… from a distance… this may relate back to the aformentioned earlier remarks on timing and beverage choice
- ‘Slowing down’ after a binge on Tequila usually invovles going back to ‘jugs’ or ‘pints’ of Vodka-based sprits as that Tequila “is starting to lineball us man…”

Matt and Dan’s new housemate also arrived later in the evening, and we were (thankfully) all doing rather well on the intoxication levels (though i’m well aware that the pungent smell of tequila was literally oozing from my pores at this stage), and managed to score a lift home (more drinking money!)……

All in all not a bad little night….

Jedi Mind trick

December 27th, 2003

This is not the blog you are looking for…

Still here? Oh well, guess I had better write something.

Its been a while since I have put anything up here. That is mainly due to the fact that I only post (99% of the time) while I’m at work. I mean, what else am I going to do? Work? /shudder

So, that means I’m here at work today. There should be a law against working on the weekend. I’m sure its in the Bible somewhere that ‘thou shalt not work on the weekend, for this is the time to consume beer’ or something to that effect. Of course this would mean that people would have to do all their shopping and stuff during the week and would be a pain in the ass for some, but it would stop me from working the weekends and isn’t that the point after all?

Work has actually been pretty good the last two days. I haven’t come close to slipping into homicidal mode. This isn’t to say that I have been peachy the whole time, just that no one has managed to push all the wrong buttons and unleash the beast within.

Adam mentioned that Dan and myself have a new flatmate. For now I will call her .. hmm.. Lara will suffice. She seems rather cool at the moment, I mean, she laughs at my dumb jokes so thats definately a plus for her already. I will give it some time before I unleash the full extent of my humor upon her. Lara may not be ready for that just yet (besides I have to gauge her reaction to some topics before I know if she will be accomodating to some of the more…. flavoursome? things I have to say sometimes). Adam, Dan and Wonton could probably all attest to the fact that I have been known to take things over the line of acceptable and into the realms of ‘dude thats seriously messed up’. So seeing as I don’t want to scare anyone away, I will keep my more outlandish coments to myself for now and leave it be.

Less than 2hrs before I get to go home now.

So I’ve now saved up enough cash to get my wisdom teeth out. I will wait slightly longer before I get it done though as I want to have enough money left over once I pay the thief.. err I mean tortuerer.. err sorry dentist to remove them for me. Dan has offered to do it for the cost of 2 bottles of tequlia (probably both for him), some needlenose pliers, hammer and a chisel. I thanked him for his generous offer, and told him that I will take him up on it if going to the dentist fails.

Seeing as time at work is winding down, I’m just going to Zone out (go watch Office Space, you’ll understand) and hopefully my brain will start functioning again just before its time to leave.

Note to self

December 27th, 2003

After reading some favoured websites within my second degree of seperation, starting to feel more than slightly ashamed at my writing skills.

Time to start putting those university-educated brain cells to work and write with eloquence and style in the new year.

LOTR: Return of the King, a laymans review

December 27th, 2003

I will predicate this post by indicating that I won’t be revealing any spoiler information, so you can happily read on and enjoy (sic) this post.

With the rest of the regular kids, I went to see the third and final installment of the Peter Jacksons (directional) masterpiece of possibly the greatest tale written, the Lord of the Rings.

An absolute epic at 3+ hours, i’m seriously grateful that i was in a Gold Class cinema with Jason recliner seats, food and drink served at specified intervals, and the ability to curl up and sleep if required (though I didn’t, the movie was
enthralling).

Landscape, settings and CGI were all absolutely amazing, and I give all parties involved an amazing amount of respect to their talents. The storyline has generally been followed with precision, with only minor dressings to accommodate the book to film translation (note: With a story of this size and aspect, i’m incredibly impressed about how much they stuck to the books themes).

There were parts that did slow quite considerably, but they (as the books are) represent the largest chunk of the material and still thereby hold an amazing amount of relevance. Some of the side story lines were cut off abruptly and I’m assuming that in the extended version we will see these stretched to their correct length again.

A great end to an amazing trilogy.

Now all I want to know is, what movie will be the Boxing Day epic that i’ve become accustomed to after all these years???

P.S – Matt and Dan’s housemate moved in yesterday. Very cool. (Not that it was my decision, but they have me as a friend so obviously they have good taste!) :) . I’m sure we’ll get a post from them at some stage talking about her.

Officially intoxicated heavily

December 25th, 2003

Ok …. so this is the most heavily intoxicated i’ve been while posting, so if the grammar and spelling are more than the usual appalling I do apologise.

Christmas night… 2003.. the last christmas I will spend at the family home… drunk beyond human recognition and decided to post at my website.

About to call Eve to give her a status update. Promise I won’t edit this post, no matter how bad it really is.

Ok

- Drank about 2,70909 cocktails, very drunk
- Currently listening to 60′s music.. and know all the words
- Mixed between girls way too young and girls way too old.. scary
- Passed up on smoking illegal substances because ‘i’m over that phase’. … shit i’m old
- Loving every minute of this night..
- Realising the pure beauty in life is to have a bed to sleep in, no matter how long it’s been between visits.. .fantastic.

Now for those uninitiatiated, this is the drinking night of nights. The nights when everyone lets down there hair, brings a minimum of 1 full bottle of alcohol and dances until we’re too tired to stand….

I am blessed to be a part of this life and grateful for every moment.

I want to take this time to thank my family, my friends, my loved ones, and everyone in between for helping me to be the person I can be. I am forever in your debt.

Loving all yoiur work

My Christmas list

December 24th, 2003

Ok, stolen from Eve, who stole from Caraxus, here are some questions i’m going to answer…

1. What did you do in 2003 that you’d never done before?

Committed to something. Anything.

2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

Yes I did actually. I promised myself i’d work on getting my shit together. This year (overall) has been good in that sense. I’m as happy as i’ve probably ever been.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

Within the second degree of seperation, yes. Immediate family/friends, no.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

No, thank goodness.

5. What countries did you visit?

None, just interstate a few times.

6. What would you like to have in 2004 that you lacked in 2003?

More of the same really. Friends, family and work that I care about.

7. What date from 2003 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

About 3 days, but i’m not going to reveal the details. They were bitter-sweet on so many levels.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Starting the journey to finding myself, and getting a decent distance of the journey.

9. What was your biggest failure?

Not spending time with Eve when I was down in Sydney. She deserved better than what I gave her, and I have promised myself that I will make it up to her.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

None, thank goodness.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

Without a doubt, my air conditioning unit. Now this is not to be pretentious. I can’t explain to you all how badly I suffer from the heat, so this was a blessing.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?

Eve. She pushed herself on so many levels and has come leaps and bounds. I’m proud of her and i’m lucky to have her in my life. (She also knows she can now live with less than 10 hours sleep :) )

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?

Mine.

14. Where did most of your money go?

One Word: Alcohol.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

Meeting Eve. Meeting the STL kids.

16. What song will always remind you of 2003?

Let me get back to you, i’ve been drinking and can’t remember the name :)

17. Compared to this time last year, are you happier or sadder?

Infinitely happier.

ii. thinner or fatter?

I’ve put on weight.. this will change in the new year :)

iii. richer or poorer?

So so much richer (not financially though). It’s been a good year for growth.

18. What do you wish you’d done more of?

Seen Eve and the rest of the kids.

19. What do you wish you’d done less of?

Worrying about minor issues.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?

With family and friends. Jetskiing wherever possible and engaging in debaucherous activities on many many occassions.

22. Did you fall in love in 2003?

Just once.

23. How many one night stands?

None, not really my gig.

24. What was your favourite TV programme?

I really didn’t watch T.V this year. Australian Idol got the most watching time, but only because I did all my ironing on a Sunday night.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?

I’m not into hating people. I can be frustrated at times, but I refuse to stoop to their level.

26. What was the best book you read?

I’ve read appallingly little this year so I’m not going to say.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?

My influences this year were from Eve, so just about everything she’s introduced me to i’ve liked. (thanks babe) :)

28. What did you want and get?

Great job, great friends.

29. What did you want and not get?

Love of my life.

30. What was your favourite film of this year?

hmmmm.. it’s also been a bad year for movies, so I can’t really say.

31. What did you do on your birthday?

Spent time with loved ones.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

Having all the people I love in the one city!

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2003?

non-existent…. this will change upon my holiday trip to Sydney in February :)

34. What kept you sane?

Chats with Eve. Mid-week outings with friends.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

Dido.. babe.. great singer.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?

Not really into the political thing.

37. Who did you miss?

Those who are no longer in my life.

38. Who was the best new person you met?

Eve, followed closely by all the new friends i’ve made.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2003.

That change is scary but positive, being flexible isn’t a dirty word. (stolen from Eve)

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.

There will be no white flag upon my door.

ps – Sorry babe. Not quite sure why i’m being a dickhead. Hope to talk soon.
